EDIT: Well, now that I've been informed that there's no real danger from lightning in urban zones, I'm going to just go ahead, thunderstorms or no. Whee!

I'm kinda nervous going out into thunderstorms holding what's essentially a metal framework covered with cloth.

Well, do you have to travel in any wide open fields? Lightning strikes usually hit the tallest object around.

I've only seen brief bits of Alien 9. I think I'd like to see it. Though, I had a hard time dealing with Milk Closet.

Erf. There's always the taxi option; it's comparitively expensive, but that may be preferable to the other options, which are hoofing around in the thunderstorms or missing the con altogether!

Seriously, man up to umbrella. In an urban environment you are in zero danger of lightning strike.

There is most definitely real danger from lightning strikes in urban areas. Just because most things are taller than you (buildings, trees, antennas, etc) and are more likely to attract the lightning strike, doesn't mean you still can't attract it yourself! It's not necessarily a huge danger but if you hear/feel-the-vibrations-of thunder, you're close enough to a storm to be struck by lightning, wherever you are.

That being said, I think walking to and from the convention centre should pose no problem with only a far outside chance of something serious happening on your way!'
