Shadow Dragon

I dreamt of rodents. They lived in those piping-looking tunnels. There was a whole adventure that I forgot, but it ended with them trekking across a field, leaving because of some creepy thing in the tunnels.

I have many dreams about RPGs that never existed. Most of them are not particularly noteworthy. However, I had this one that I suspect was slightly inspired by a bit from the Rym campaign setting (warning: still incomplete, the creator appears to be slooowly filling out the details).

First, though, the obviously NES-inspired bits came first—the graphics. Oh, yeah, and I think I was playing it on an emulator because I made use of save states. The first part I can really recall: a village of small hemisphere-shaped huts. One, as soon as you walked into it, you immediately got a prompt asking if you wanted to pay 50 whatevers for a night’s rest. However, you could look around in the hut, and there were those cavepeople-likes. The interesting thing was that they reacted positively to a low charisma, because they had differing ideas of beauty from everyone else.

So, anyway, I walked out of the village, apparently picking up an animal companion along the way, and found myself in what looked like a cavern system. Interestingly enough, the graphics there were more SNES-styled, particularly the cities—there was this one really, really cool city that looked pretty high-tech. It was all black, with buildings that swelled from the ground up, like bottles, and had all those lights. Too bad I couldn’t get into it because of the huge doors in my way.

However, I did manage to enter this place that looked peculiarly like a ruint shipyard—broke masts jutting out of the ground, with ropes trailing from them. Over them, those lush trees with moss trailing them spread, giving the whole thing a dim lighting. Once there, I realized the possiblity of having to fight those particular creatures. They start out weak, but if you fight them and then let them live, they get stronger. If you beat them again, and still let them live, they turn into something, I didn’t know. Possibly, they might actually become more philosophical (and good). Or they might just become very powerful. I didn’t know.

Down, down, down into the water. Down there, it appeared even more like a ruint shipyard, with ships and all. Vague impressions of those massive leviathons that it was better to avoid (the only part actually inspired by Rym, I think). And there was this dragon. She had a breath that could suck the life out of people, but she also was surprisingly good. She sort of washed me over with her breath, and turned me into a dragon. Or something.

That’s all I can really remember enough to describe.
