Expedition, Union, and Space Monster
Note: this is a fairly changed, edited version, since I don’t remember much.
There was a rumor of space monsters, so the Union sent an armed expedition team to investigate. However, the expedition team was not heard from for a few years, so they sent another team plus random drops of communication equipment across the planet surface.
The second team met with disaster—a creature that consisted of a sucker-mouth with black almost amoeba-like protopods broke into their craft and consumed several. The remainder escaped through the windows on the ceiling with some struggle, the doors having jammed.
They, strangely enough, fetched a ride on another creature, this one shaped kind of like a tapered caterpillar with glowing lights along its length, like some deepsea fish. It, also, was blackish with a vaguely amoebaish quality. The first creature gave pursuit, its protopods oozing ahead of it, giving it a squid-like quality.
The ‘caterpillar’ fled through the planet’s almost liquid atmosphere, only to suddenly turn and sprout a horn, striking at the dreamsquid. Finding the tables turned, the dreamsquid turned and fled. Now, the landscape had an almost ocean-like look, with what appeared to be coral. The sky was dark, as if there was no atmosphere, though no stars were visible and objects were lit up. Now, the dreamsquid fled into a mass of ‘coral’ that appeared almost squid-like itself, with black coral spires arranged in a circle and jabbing out horizontally. Out of this coral, a huge swarm of dreamsquid erupted. They were so many that they seemed almost one solid, massive body.
Now the ‘caterpillar’ fled again, through an almost forest of black coral. Then, as it fled past some particular ‘trees’, eyes became visible, and a similarly sized swarm of ‘caterpillars’ sallied from each tree, collecting into a truly enormous one that consumed the dreamsquid swarm. The remainders of the second team embarked on a crosscountry trek across the strange land, seeking any traces of the original team.
They found a fence, strangely enough, with barbed wire on top of it. So, they embarked to climb up over it. Partly because gravity apparently touched them less, and partly because of the thick ‘atmosphere’ (which might account for the former), it was a possible task to flip right over the barbed wire, launching oneself from the top of the fence, almost somecrasting, and then kicking ones legs to send oneself over the barbed wire. Here the ‘atmosphere’ especially showed its strange properties, having qualities of air at some times and water at others, sometimes both at the same time.
Flash to the first team, which had turned into almost a colony. For unknown reason, they were apparently on the move. They stumbled across what appeared to be some 20th century style homes, which unexpectedly had trapped yards. Now, by this time, they had already had some kids prone to running around, so it was a difficult time not to lose any (though helped by the fact that the traps weren’t extremely potent).
The first team settles in. They apparently have found some of the communication equipment, and begins listening to broadcasts. Frustratingly enough, the official news broadcasts were strangely uninformative, so they ended up listening to unofficial, ‘pirate’ stations. They ended up responding to an ad for a radio that can listen in to the secret government broadcasts, ‘delivered to any planet, anywhere’.
However, the ad turns out to be a trap. The Union government has clamped down because of riots arising from fears inspired by the rumors of the space monsters and the loss of contact with the first expedition. They took the fact that the expedition’s first message was to request an illegal radio as a sign of treason.
So, they sent the box, slinging it from outside the system because of the potential danger of the space monsters. However, as the expedition watched, what appeared to be almost a streaming mass of black, glistening amoebic hair with two glowing eyes in the front intercepted. (Amusing enough, this looked similar to the first possessed boar in Princess Momonoke, though without arms.) Strangely enough, the creature changed into what appeared to be a huge black-haired lady with eerie glowing transparent flesh, and ‘she’ took the box in one hand and opened it with her nail. The resulting explosion was very clearly visible to the expedition on the planet.
This is all I remember.
