Animals aren't that different
Sep. 6th, 2005 08:55 pm"If ants had nuclear weapons, they would probably end the world in a week." -- from an article discussing aggression between members of the same species. It seems ants are particularly warlike.
I can't think of many things humans do that aren't repeated (if often in less complex form) in nature. A few, yes, but they're fewer than a lot of people think. Agent Smith is wrong, because a lot of things are viruses by his reasoning. Such as plants, they wiped out 99% of life a vastly long time ago by converting the atmosphere to a high oxygen form. After that, life afterward's had to adjust to all that oxygen.
...So, yeah. I actually do think we have more promise of becoming peaceful animals than the other species, because we can actually recognize the issues associated with violence. It doesn't mean that chance's particularly high (I would wager slim) but it's far more than less self-aware animals have.
